sitemaptorss

In the waning hours of my Christmas break, I've launched a new project: sitemaptorss.

It, like caltorss before it, is hopefully well-described by its name: it converts a sitemap to an RSS feed.

Unlike caltorss (and rssrssrssrss before it), sitemaptorss has to deal with state: specifically, most sites will either fudge or omit entirely the <lastmod> tag in the sitemap, so I'm using Turso as the simplest-possible way to track the last modified date of each item. (Like those tools, this is a thing to scratch my own itch: enough sites that should have RSS feeds do not have them, and I am tired of waiting for them to be updated.)

It is not coincidental that these things interop nicely; between this and Buttondown's RSS-to-email functionality I can send myself a little weekly digest of what more serious people call "competitive intelligence" and is in fact usually just Stripe and a few other services soft-launching new products.

(A not-particularly-keen eye will also note that all of these sites have the exact same design. This is great. Being able to copy and paste the aesthetic and just focus on the ~100 lines of functionality is a great way to actually ship and finish things rather than dithering.)
